About the book
Synopsis
A Faith to Live By and Die With: A Study of the Apostles’ Creed is a study of the church’s oldest confession for adults who want to think carefully and worship deeply. Every clause has roots in Scripture; nothing in it is the private opinion of a clever man, but the common confession of the whole church across every century and continent.
Unapologetically Reformed — drawing on the Westminster Standards and the Heidelberg Catechism — and equally historical and devotional, it walks the Creed phrase by phrase from “I believe” to the life everlasting. Each chapter opens the phrase from Scripture and presses it toward the conscience, with sidebars supplying the historical background and the catechetical connections, so the reader sees both where a doctrine came from and how the church has summarized it. Doctrine that never reaches the heart and the hands, the book insists, has not yet done its work.
